There were 65 participants. The meeting was in Russian with simultaneous translation in English. Participants included health professionals, health policymakers and NGO representatives from 11 counties in the region – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Russia.

37,618 abortion cases recorded in Azerbaijan in 2017

37,618 abortions were performed in Azerbaijan in 2017, Sevinj Mammadova, chairperson of the Health Ministry's Obstetrical Commission, director of the Republican Perinatal Center said on Thursday, APA reported.

For the most part, the abortions were carried out on women aged 18-25, said Mammadova, adding that no death resulted from these operations.

Mammadova also noted that five women under 18 had an abortion last year.
