WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump promised Wednesday to sign an executive order that would require health care providers to provide medical care to all babies born alive as he makes an election-year push to appeal to voters who oppose abortion.

The White House did not release further details about the order, but Trump’s announcement follows numerous attempts by GOP lawmakers in Washington and in state capitals around the country to pass legislation that threatens prison for doctors who don’t try to save the life of infants born alive during abortions.

How Abortion Became a Tool of White Supremacists

When Donald Trump took to the stage of the Republican National Convention, he
talked about abortion in a way that may have shocked those in the UK.

The anti-choice US President, whose base includes Evangelical Christians happy
to turn a blind eye to extra-marital affairs and divorce so long as their man
in the White House undermines women’s reproductive rights, declared: “Joe Biden
claims he has empathy for the vulnerable – yet the party he leads supports the
extreme late-term abortion of defenseless babies right up to the moment of
birth. Democrat leaders talk about moral decency, but they have no problem with
stopping a baby’s beating heart in the ninth month of pregnancy.”

The New South Wales upper house has passed an amendment to a bill decriminalising abortion that clarifies that doctors must provide appropriate care to babies born alive after a termination.

The Nationals MP Niall Blair, who introduced the amendment on Wednesday, said he wished he wasn’t moving it at all and it was disappointing that MPs had to codify what already existed.

His latest lie is that the mother and the doctor decide whether or not to "execute the baby" after it's born and wrapped up in a blanket.

President Donald Trump’s anti-abortion rhetoric is getting more extreme by the day.

Born Alive Abortion Survivors: Parsing Fact from Fiction

Born Alive Abortion Survivors: Parsing Fact from Fiction

Last week, a friend sent me an article bearing the headline They Are Real: Meet Born-Alive Abortion Survivors. Could I maybe blog about it, she asked? This article led me down to a rabbit hole with numbers that kept getting bigger. When I reached an article that argued that there are 44,000 abortion survivors living in the U.S. today, I knew we had a definitional problem. What is really going on here?

The article my friend sent me profiled five individuals it labeled “abortion survivors.” These individuals are real people. The first one profiled Gianna Jesson, whose mother had a saline abortion at 30 weeks in 1977, and Gianna survived. When she was born alive, she was provided with care and given up for adoption. Melissa Ohden’s biological mother had a saline abortion at 31 weeks in 1977; she, too, survived and was provided care.
