'Safe access zones’ entered law in England and Wales in May but Home Office has delayed implementing them

Women using abortion clinics are still being harassed despite MPs voting a year ago to create buffer zones to stop protesters intimidating them, medical and abortion groups say.

Suella Braverman, the home secretary, has failed to “commence” the legislation to introduce buffer zones in England and Wales, even though parliament approved the move on 18 October last year.

UK – Bournemouth: Anti-abortion group take action against clinic buffer zone

An anti-abortion group is taking legal action over a clinic buffer zone, claiming it censors free speech and criminalises reading from the Bible.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is being taken to court for introducing the zone to protect staff and visitors from protests.

Christian Concern said the council's consultation held prior to its introduction was "questionable".

GMC backs down after Christian doctor Dermot Kearney challenges restrictions on anti-abortion pills following complaint by MSI Reproductive Choices

The General Medical Council (GMC) has dramatically lifted restrictions on a Christian NHS consultant who had been banned from providing emergency support to women in crisis pregnancies, ahead of his planned challenge to the measures in the High Court this week.

Campaign group Christian Concern reported that the GMC dismissed every allegation against Dr Dermot Kearney and concluded that there is no case to answer.

Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, Dr Kearney, an experienced Hospital consultant from Tyne and Wear, had been blocked from providing Abortion Pill Reversal treatment (APR) in 2021 by an Interim Orders Tribunal, following a GMC referral.

An anti-abortion campaigner who is banned from displaying a poster featuring an image of a dead foetus alongside a picture of the Labour MP Stella Creasy has failed to overturn a council order against him.

Christian Hacking challenged the imposition of a community protection notice (CPN) after he put up the image of what he said was a “24-week-old aborted baby girl” in Creasy’s constituency in Walthamstow, north-east London.
