Tasmania Police will not investigate Health Minister Michael Ferguson over allegations he revealed the medical information of Angela Williamson to her employer, Cricket Australia, before she was sacked for tweeting about abortion.

Shadow Attorney-General Ella Haddad last week asked Tasmania Police to investigate Mr Ferguson, who is also Police Minister, over claims he had revealed medical information about Ms Williamson to Cricket Tasmania chief executive Nick Cummins.

Tasmanian women will be able to access surgical abortions, with a private provider to begin offering the procedure later in the year.

It follows outrage over the sacking of Cricket Australia staffer Angela Williamson after she criticised the Liberal state government for a void of abortion services.

The woman fired by Cricket Australia (CA) for tweeting about abortion has started a petition calling for safe, affordable and legal access to the fundamental service.

Angela Williamson, 39, became one of the first Tasmanians forced to travel interstate for an abortion, after the last centre closed late last year.

A former Cricket Australia employee alleges she was sacked because she campaigned for improved abortion rights in Tasmania and criticised the state Liberal government on social media.

Angela Williamson, 39, was sacked from her job as manager of public policy and government relations at Cricket Australia following a tweet in which she labelled the government “gutless” for failing to ensure women had access to reproductive health services in the state, Fairfax reported on Monday.

Angela Williamson claims she was terminated from her position as public policy and government relations manager in June over concerns she had insulted the Tasmanian government.
