Isle of Man abortion services ‘must be better publicised’

There should be more publicity about the availability of abortion services on the Isle of Man, a Tynwald scrutiny committee has said.

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee said there was a lack of material at doctors' surgeries.

Manx abortion reforms to be introduced after new law receives Royal Assent

Women on the Isle of Man will soon be able to request an abortion within the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

Tynwald President Steve Rodan said the Abortion Reform Act had received Royal Assent, meaning that the UK's Ministry of Justice has given its approval.

The Manx government is yet to announce when the new law, proposed by Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson, will be introduced.

A claim was made this week that that further extreme anti-abortion protests were unlikely.

Chris Robertshaw (Douglas East) made the assertion as he questioned the need for a proposal to introduce a law creating safety zones around areas where abortion services would be provided.
