JUNE 25, 2021

A joint statement signed by over 200
international civil society organizations from 88 countries across six
continents was released on 22 June 2021, organized by Planned Parenthood Global
and the International Planned Parenthood Federation. Released as part of a week
of action, it calls for a permanent end to the US Global Gag Rule. The
statement, in Arabic, English, French and Spanish, demonstrates the diversity
of just some of the communities harmed by the policy over the past 37 years.

According to research released by Planned Parenthood in September 2020, 70% of
Americans favored ending the Global Gag Rule so that funding for global health
could resume without restrictions.

USA – Planned Parenthood launches plan to protect abortion access

Planned Parenthood launches plan to protect abortion access

The Associated Press, David Crary
October 10, 2018

NEW YORK — Planned Parenthood on Wednesday launched a campaign to protect access to abortion as widely as possible even if the Supreme Court, with the addition of conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh, moves to curtail a woman’s right to undergo the procedure.

“We know that we’ll need an ironclad network of states and providers across the country where abortion will still be legal and accessible, no matter what happens at the Supreme Court,” said Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood’s executive vice-president.

USA – Beyond Brett Kavanaugh’s Past, We Must Consider the Future of Abortion

Beyond Brett Kavanaugh’s Past, We Must Consider the Future of Abortion
A new Planned Parenthood report paints a dark picture of reproductive rights if Kavanaugh is confirmed

For at least as long as Brett Kavanaugh has been nominated for a Supreme Court seat, he has been justifiably considered to be a potential danger to reproductive freedom. Since he represents a possible fifth and decisive vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, Kavanaugh poses a threat to the future of legal and safe reproductive health care, including abortions. However, the focus around Kavanaugh’s confirmation has been primarily on the multiple sexual misconduct allegations against him dating back to his high school and undergraduate years.

Appalling though the accusations may be, I understand why conservatives may prefer to talk about this scandal and not abortion. A July survey conducted by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal indicated that 71 percent of American voters want Roe upheld. However, a more recent, surprising poll likely has the GOP’s attention: Only a slight majority of Americans polled by Quinnipiac after last Thursday’s hearings believe Christine Blasey Ford over Kavanaugh — 48 percent to 41, respectively.

Do Americans Support Abortion? A New Poll Shows Stunning Results About Voters

Do Americans Support Abortion? A New Poll Shows Stunning Results About Voters

By Hannah Golden
July 30, 2018

As voters are preparing to head to the polls in November for the midterm elections, the fates of a handful of senators are tied up in the nomination of a new Supreme Court justice. The stance of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the seat, on abortion in particular has caught the attention of voters, according to a new poll. The findings of the survey, released Monday, July 30, make it clear just how much Americans support abortion and indicate how this might play out in November.

The poll was conducted by Civis Analytics on behalf of the National Women's Law Center (NWLC) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPFA). The online survey, conducted on July 25, included responses from 2,438 likely voters, including Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

USA – The domestic gag rule on abortion, explained

The domestic gag rule on abortion, explained

Trump is reportedly weighing a rule that would ban some doctors from even talking about abortion.

The Trump administration last year reinstated — and expanded — a rule from performing abortions or even discussing abortion with their patients. Often called the Global Gag Rule, it’s led to clinic closures and reductions in crucial services around the world. And now it might be coming to the United States.

The White House is reportedly considering a domestic gag rule that would essentially apply the restrictions of the global rule to providers that receive federal Title X funds, which help low-income patients get services like contraceptive counseling and testing for sexually transmitted infections. Such a rule would force Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health providers to either stop discussing abortions with their patients or stop receiving Title X money.
