President Trump on Saturday yet again claimed that doctors in America are executing babies. “The baby is born,” Trump said at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin. “The mother meets with the doctor. They take care of the baby. They wrap the baby beautifully, and then the doctor and the mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby.”

The Trump administration’s latest attempt to derail women’s reproductive health and rights at the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is nothing short of an assault against human rights and democracy.
CSW is the U.N.’s largest gathering of women’s rights advocates, with the purpose of evaluating how well governments are doing on establishing gender equality and promoting policies to advance women worldwide. Yet the Trump administration has chosen this global meeting to form an international coalition that aims to restrict access to sexual and reproductive health—particularly abortion—and to promote traditional family values.

As I’ve headed to work in recent days to see abortion patients in my office, I have felt bereft: All the premises of my life, work, education, and future were gone. Something very profound in the meaning of the America I know has been destroyed with the election of Donald J. Trump as president.
One of the reasons I’ve felt this way is that, for the past 45 years, I have dedicated my medical career, skills, and life to the assistance of women who need my services as a physician in performing safe abortions.
