MP Pushes For Law On Safe Abortions

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku in the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has called on parliament to consider a legal regime to guide the conduct of safe abortions since abortion is considered criminal under Section 58 of the Criminal Offence Act of 1960 (Act 29) as amended by the PNDC Law 102 of 1985.

According to him, 10,000 women and girls in Ghana die annually through attempted and unsafe abortions while 27 die daily through unsafe abortions.

Dr. Okoe Boye calls for decriminalisation of abortion

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku Constituency, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has called for the decriminalisation of abortion in the country.

According to him, he is not calling for an unrestricted, unrestrained and unstructured legal regime that grants a blank cheque for the termination of pregnancy but to bring to the attention of the members of the Ghanaian parliament the increase in abortion by the end of 2017.
