Roscommon-South Leitrim achieved a brief moment of notoriety after the 2015 same-sex marriage referendum when it was the only constituency in the State that voted No.

It was a marginal thing. Other constituencies such as Donegal South West and Cavan-Monaghan had voted Yes by a hair’s breadth. But that cut little slack when the narrative came to be written.

Anti-abortion TDs from different parties are discussing working together to oppose the removal of the Eighth Amendment from the Constitution.

A number of concerned deputies consulted this week before agreeing to vote in the Dáil against a proposal to hold a referendum on abortion.

Several Fianna Fail TDs privately confirmed to The Irish Times that there were talks ahead of a series of votes on the Thirty-sixth Amendment of the Constitution Bill.

At her home in Dublin, actress Tara Flynn recalls how, 12 years ago, she learned she was pregnant. It was not planned.

"I was 37. I was single. I wasn't working very much, and I didn't want to be a parent," Flynn says.

She didn't want to have a baby and give it up for adoption, either. But with abortion illegal in Ireland, her only option at the time was to leave the country to end her pregnancy.
