A 15-year-old minor has been arrested after procuring an abortion in Kabartonjo in Baringo county.

DCI director George Kinoti said detectives rescued the foetus from the verge of death after the minor threw it in the toilet.

A clinic said to have facilitated a botched abortion on human rights activist Caroline Mwatha in Dandora, Nairobi is not registered, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) has revealed.

KMPDB chief executive Daniel Yumbya said government officials will visit the clinic for inspection on Wednesday.

The family of a Kenyan activist who went missing for a week before turning up dead, have questioned police claims she died of a botched abortion, and demanded a post-mortem .

Caroline Mwatha went missing last Wednesday, prompting Amnesty International to raise the alarm over her disappearance, given her sensitive work lobbying against extra-judicial killings by police.
