The controversial Reproductive Health Bill 2019 drafted by Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has received support from Kenyan atheists.

Atheists in Kenya Society hailed the proposed bill as progressive, saying it will help reduce unwanted pregnancies because it gives Kenyans the power to decide when to have or not have children.

Atheists in Kenya president Harrison Mumia has asked the government to review the country’s abortion laws. The controversial chairman of non-believers said the government should provide access to safe and legal abortion under the new constitution.

In a letter dated Tuesday, November 12, the former Central Bank of Kenya employee said the state should expand post abortion care services all over the country until unsafe termination of pregnancies is eradicated.

The group is now calling on the board to consider ensuring that abortion drugs are administered to pregnant girls by unlicensed medical practitioners.

Atheists in Kenya (AIK) have faulted the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) for banning abortions at Marie Stopes.

The group has further termed the ban on abortion as misguided and regrettable, insisting that abortion is common in the country.
