PARHA discusses safe abortion plan in Sierra Leone

The People’s Alliance for Reproductive Health Advocacy (PARHA) Coalition last week engaged Media practitioners at the YCMA Hall, Fort Street in Freetown on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights issues. Organizers said the objective was to support them in their plans in achieving the “Safe Abortion” campaign.

Leaders in this reproductive campaign say
that sexual reproductive health is not only meant for women but men too and
that it is important to advocate for the safety of each and every party.

Religious Leaders Thwart Abortion Rights in Sierra Leone

The Safe Abortion Bill
For every 100,000 live births in Sierra Leone, 1,360 women die.

According to a 2015 World Health Organization report, Sierra Leone has the worst maternal mortality rate in the world, and complications from unsafe abortion procedures contribute to 10 percent of these deaths. Thanks to a draconian abortion law, women have to procure abortion by any means they can find, and many either die from hemorrhage and sepsis or suffer severely damaging physical and psychological consequences.
