Northern Ireland bill banning some anti-abortion protests challenged

Legislation to ban anti-abortion protests at health settings in Northern Ireland will not "go back to square one", the Supreme Court has been told.

In March, the Stormont Assembly voted for a bill to place "buffer zones" outside abortion clinics.

It is being challenged by NI's attorney general, Dame Brenda King.

Abortion: Assembly backs change in NI abortion law

A bill which seeks to amend the law in Northern Ireland to prevent abortions in cases of non-fatal disabilities, including Down's Syndrome, has been backed by a majority of MLAs.

The Severe Fetal Impairment Bill, brought by DUP MLA Paul Givan, passed its second stage by 48 votes to 12.

Assembly members are set to return to the Stormont chamber for the first time in nearly three years after 31 members signed a petition triggering a recall.

The move was proposed in a last-ditch attempt to stop the reform of Northern Ireland's abortion law.

BBC defiant at giving voice to anti-abortion activist on Nolan

The BBC has defended inviting a controversial anti-abortion activist on to one of its most popular TV shows.

Susan Anne White, who has been heavily criticised in the past for her views on homosexuality, abortion and feminism, appeared on Wednesday night's Nolan Live.

She was discussing news that women in Northern Ireland will be permitted to travel to the UK for abortions.
