Abortion Shield Laws: A New War Between the States

Doctors in six states where abortion is legal are using new laws to send abortion pills to tens of thousands of women in states where it is illegal.

Behind an unmarked door in a boxy brick building outside Boston, a quiet rebellion is taking place. Here, in a 7-by-12-foot room, abortion is being made available to thousands of women in states where it is illegal.

The patients do not have to travel here to terminate their pregnancies, and they do not have to wait weeks to receive abortion medication from overseas.

USA – Reporters Must Do Better on Abortion: Six Facts You Should Know

Reporters Must Do Better on Abortion: Six Facts You Should Know
Reputable newspapers and TV news outlets are supposed to care about facts and evidence to help inform the public. And they continue to fail miserably when reporting on abortion.

Media coverage of abortion care in the United States is — to be blunt — abysmal. Too much news coverage and analysis of abortion is devoid of fact, and instead relies on the faulty premise that the abortion debate involves two sides arguing in good faith, when in reality one side is rooted in evidence and clinical experience and the other in flat-out lies and ideology.

Much of what passes for conservative commentary in outlets like the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Washington Post, and numerous other mainstream publications fails to engage any facts at all.

This is not a drill. This is not politics as usual. This is survival. The Democrats must treat it as such or, if we survive to write a history, be forever infamous for preemptive surrender.

At the end of a week in which the illegitimate U.S. Supreme Court pick of an illegitimate president now under criminal investigation provided the critical fifth vote on cases eviscerating labor rights, the rights of Muslims, and the rights of pregnant people to medically accurate information, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement. As a result, Donald Trump (or more accurately Vice President Mike Pence and the Federalist Society) will make the most consequential Court pick for at least a generation. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) has, not surprisingly, already vowed to confirm Trump’s nominee by the fall, without even knowing who that will be.
