FOLLOWING A SERIES of anti-abortion protests since Ireland’s termination of pregnancy legislation came into effect on 1 January, the issue of exclusion zones around clinics and GP practices has become a pressing issue.

On 3 January, two days after abortion services became legal in the state, a group of pro-life protesters picketed a GP practice in Galway.

The HSE is probing claims that a woman was phoned and harassed by a man who had obtained her personal information.

A ‘RATS OUT of the HSE’ protest was staged at the Department of Health’s Baggot Street office in Dublin today, calling for better protection of patient information and for an external investigation to be launched into last week’s revelations of apparent data breaches.

A number of investigations were launched last week into claims that a woman who had an abortion at the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin was phoned and harassed by a man who had obtained her personal information.

This is at least the second time this year that people have protested outside the hospital.

FOR AT LEAST the second time this year, anti-abortion campaigners protested outside of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.

One of the three people who took part this morning was Charles Byrne, who said he was there because the group had received information that a number of terminations were to take place in the hospital.

‘Pro-life’ activists naming abortion doctors online

Dozens of doctors who have agreed to provide legal abortion services have had their names and addresses published online by anti-abortion activists.

The Times understands that people pretending to need “crisis pregnancy” advice have been using an HSE helpline to collect the names of GPs who will provide termination services. More than 40 doctors in 19 counties have had their names and addresses shared on social media.
