Pharmacists cite legal hassles as reason; experts say lack of access to safe abortions a worry
A mere 1.2% chemists in Maharashtra — three of the 252 reviewed in five cities — stock medical abortion (MA) pills, a study has found.

The study covered 1,008 chemists in Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

India: Abortion law to treat single women on par with married ones

The Union Health Ministry has proposed to allow single women to opt for abortion in cases of unplanned pregnancies, a move aimed to increase their access to safe abortion and allow them to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights.

The law allows abortion only in cases of married women and the Government’s approval will broaden the purview of legal abortion.
