Doctor, nurse in trouble as patient died after abortion

The Ogun state Police Command has arrested one Doctor Olawale Raji and a nurse Olusegun Funmilayo for carrying out an abortion that led to the death of one Aminat Iyanda.
Their arrest followed a complaint from the the sister of the deceased, one Bose Kazeem of Ireakari Street, Atan-Ota.
Abortion ban on Constitutional Court’s review in 6 years

Six years after upholding abortion ban, the Constitutional Court is reviewing whether or not abortion should be decriminalized.
In August 2012, the court’s four judges out of the eight-judge panel voted to keep the ban. The other four voted to overturn it. The panel failed to get six votes in favor of overturning it, which led to the conclusion that abortion would be illegal in Korea.

CYPRUS – Hide the abortions and then prosecute the doctors who provide them

In Cyprus, the criminal code was amended in 1986 to permit abortion, if two doctors agree, in cases of risk to the woman’s life or health, or serious fetal anomaly, and with police certification also in cases of rape. The law does not specify a time limit, but in the north of Cyprus the limit is 10 weeks. There are many private clinics providing abortion on the island, charging 600€ on average (median income in Cyprus is ± 1,170 € per month).
In July 2016, an “abortion scandal” made the news when two doctors and later four other doctors were all indicted for carrying out abortions over ten weeks of pregnancy, including one said to have been at 34 weeks of pregnancy. Many of their patients were Turkish women who travelled from Turkey to Cyprus.
Nurse charged with running illegal abortion clinic

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A nurse has been arrested for allegedly running an illegal private abortion clinic in Muang district.
The suspect was identified as Suwanna Kaewsawang, 56, who previously worked as a nurse at private hospitals in the district.
She was apprehended at her room at a national public housing apartment in tambon Nong Chabok around 9.30pm on Thursday.

KENYA- Nurse Jackson Talia acquitted of murdering a woman who died from an unsafe abortion

In July 2009, a pregnant woman came to a primary care health clinic in Gachie, Kiambu County, in severe pain and having been bleeding for eight days from a botched abortion. Mr Tali, a nurse at the clinic, tried to help her but determined that she needed to go to a hospital to receive specialized medical attention. However, the woman died in his car as she was being transferred to a higher level facility that could better handle her complications.
Mr Tali was held in custody at the GK Kamiti Maximum Prison from July 2009 until September 2014, when he was finally brought to trial. At trial, the High Court judge found him guilty of helping the young woman obtain an unsafe abortion and sentenced him to death for murder. Although the government pathologist testified that he was unable to find the cause of death, the Court held that there was direct and circumstantial evidence that the immediate cause of death was bleeding that resulted in anaemia due to interference with the pregnancy.

Medical staff in Northern Ireland have been told they will not face prosecution if they refer women to clinics in England and Wales for abortions, a development that campaigners say will ease the climate of fear under which many have been operating.
In a significant clarification of the law, the director of public prosecutions for Northern Ireland, Barra McGrory, has said he does “not see the issue of criminal liability arising in the context of NHS staff advising or informing patients of the availability of abortion services in England and Wales”.
