No conscience vote for Sinn Féin TDs on abortion, says McDonald
New leader’s own views on abortion are in conflict with current party policy on the issue

Sinn Féin TDs will not be allowed a conscience vote on abortion and anyone who deviates from the party line will be disciplined, the party’s new leader Mary Lou McDonald has said.

“It’s a matter of private conscience but it’s also a matter of public policy,” Ms McDonald told RTÉ’s The Week in Politics on Sunday.

Sinn Féin to vote on liberalising abortion stance

Sinn Féin members are set to vote on the possibility of liberalising the party's policy on abortion.

A motion will be put to allow abortions in cases when "a woman's life, health or mental health is at serious risk or in grave danger, fatal foetal abnormality and rape or sexual abuse".

Michelle O'Neill will back the motion which will set the party policy for both NI and the Republic of Ireland.
