It is shocking when a doctor asks patients to lie but that is what pro-choice doctors are urging women to do when seeking medical assistance after an abortion.

The reason for such advice is for women to avoid legal complications given that abortion is illegal and punishable by a prison sentence.

Malta – Court rejects Grech Mintoff’s challenge to investigate pro-choice activists

Court has dismissed Ivan Grech Mintoff’s attempt to initiate criminal proceedings against pro-choice activists and organisations in Malta. The decision, delivered by Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, found no prima facie cause for complaint against the named individuals and groups.

Grech Mintoff had filed a police complaint in October 2022, urging an investigation into several pro-choice activists, including Professor Isabelle Stabile, Dr. Alexander Clayman of Doctors for Choice, Dr. Lara Dimitrijevic of the Women’s Rights Foundation, and Francesca Fenech Conti of the Women for Women Foundation.

Malta – Woman fined €58 for assaulting Doctors for Choice activist

Jennifer Grech said that pro-choice messages ‘hurt her feelings’

A woman, found guilty of assaulting a pro-choice doctor during a peaceful roadside protest, later saying that the message on the activist’s placard “hurt” her feelings, was fined €58.

Judgment was delivered on the incident which took place on May 9, 2022, when Isabelle Stabile, a gynaecologist and member of Doctors for Choice, was assaulted by Jennifer Grech during a protest on Aldo Moro Street, Marsa.

Dear Honourable Prime Minister Abela,
As you well know, in 2021, then MP Marlene Farrugia tabled a Bill calling for the decriminalisation of abortion, something that Voice for Choice has been calling for since 2019. You chose to scuttle this for political reasons.

Then, in 2022, a Bill was filed to allow abortion care in very limited and extreme circumstances. I saluted you then on behalf of every woman in Malta, for proposing this legal amendment because I believed this would make Malta a little safer for those who can get pregnant. Perhaps I was mistaken, because progress on Bill 28 now seems to have stalled.
