Malawi – Youths urged to sensitise people on SRHR, unsafe abortion

Her Liberty and Girls Activist Youth Organisation (GAYO) have equipped youths from various youth clubs at Senior Chief Malemia’s area in Zomba with information to sensitise fellow youths on issues to do with Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and unsafe abortion.

The two organisations are currently implementing a project whose objective is to promote SRHR and discourage unsafe abortion in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in Zomba with financial assistance from Amplify Change, an organisation from the United Kingdom.

Malawi – Sexual reproductive health, abortion rights discussed in Salima

Malawi Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance has asked the faith-based and traditional leaders of Salima to partner with them. The aim of the collaboration is to fight for communities to get access to Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and safe abortions.

They implored Salima-based traditional and faith-based leaders  to promote access to safe abortion. Youth Programme Coordinator at Malawi Health Alliance, Gertrude Kapyepye reflected on the importance of the issue.

Unsafe abortion and unprotected sex activities affecting health of Adolescents

Bolatanga – Agnes Malebna (Not real name) was rushed in by her family to the Tinguri CHPS Out Patients Department (OPD) in the West Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region already emaciated, dehydrated and anaemic having lost so much blood.

The examination conducted by the medical team making efforts to keep her alive indicated it was an attempt to abort, which may have started at home by the 16-year-old, SHS form one student who felt she was still in school and too young to start making babies.

Trump administration in ‘staggering’ isolation at UN on health issues

US left with few allies as it tries to change wording on topic of reproductive healthcare

The outgoing Trump administration’s final
days at the United Nations have resulted in a deepening of US isolation on
social and health issues, with only a handful of allies including Russia, Belarus
and Syria.

In one vote this week, the US was entirely alone in backing its own amendment
to a seemingly uncontroversial resolution about efforts to treat medical
complications from childbirth. It called for the removal of references to the
World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Population Fund.
