Nigeria: Unsafe abortion: Ipas clamours for sex education

Non Governmental Organisation (NGO),Ipas has advocated for sex education in secondary schools and tertiary institutions to reduce the cases of unsafe abortion and violence against women in the society.

Ipas, Country Director, Hauwa Shekarau, explained that these became necessary following the high rate of unsafe abortion in the country, adding that advocating for sex the children would learn through different approved means and not from the wrong people.

Hauwa, in a paper presentation at the just concluded 3-day training workshop for media practitioners on increasing community awareness on women’s reproductive health and rights in Abuja stated that there is the need for a review of our restrict abortion laws due to the Human Right implications of unsafe abortion.
