Not all ‘confirmed’ hospitals ready to provide abortion service
HSE warns hospitals not to restrict services to women from their catchment area

The number of hospitals providing abortions is lower than the nine officially announced in the run-up to the introduction of the service.

Of the maternity units in the State, nine were “confirmed” as being ready to provide the service, Government sources told journalists before Christmas. Another 10 were not ready.

Harris requests committee meeting over abortion legislation

The Minister for Health has written to the Oireachtas committee responsible for examining amendments to the abortion legislation, requesting it meet at the earliest convenience.

Committee stage of the Regulation of the Termination of Pregnancy legislation will be overseen by the Health Committee.

Concern over timeline for introducing abortion services

The Minister for Health has said he intends to meet medical professionals shortly regarding clinical guidelines being prepared for abortion services here.

Simon Harris's comments come following today's Oireachtas Health Committee, at which concerns were raised by representatives of GPs, gynaecologists and obstetricians over the lack of meetings between stakeholders on the matter.
