Pro-choice activists dismantled the anti-abortion ‘Students for Life’ stall at Bristol’s Freshers’ Fair on Friday.
The pro-life stand, staffed predominantly by men, was approached by three protestors who began taking down pro-life signs.
Two female students from the group unveiled a large banner which read: “Abortion is a Human Right”.

Uganda has joined several other African countries to oppose the contentious United Nations Human Rights Committee’s definition of abortion as a human right.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines abortion as termination of pregnancy prior to 20 weeks gestation.
The European Parliament voted to make abortion a fundamental right in the 27-nation bloc. The vote is a reaction to the US Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The European Parliament endorsed a resolution which calls for adding "everyone has the right to safe and legal abortion" into the charter of fundamental rights within the EU.
On Thursday, 324 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted in favor of the resolution, with 155 voting against and 38 absent from the assembly in Strasbourg, France.

The move is an effort to confront countries like Poland and Malta, where women’s rights are being restricted.

The European Parliament on Thursday easily passed a divisive resolution that proclaimed the safe access to abortion is a human right — an effort to confront countries such as Poland and Malta, where women’s rights are being restricted.
The resolution urges EU countries to recognize that any interference with access to contraception, fertility treatment, maternity care and abortion “constitute breaches of human rights.” It implores countries to “condemn any attempt to limit access” to these services.

The past fifty years have been characterized by an unmistakable trend toward the liberalization of abortion laws, particularly in the industrialized world. Amid ongoing debate over the procedure, the trend has coincided with a drop in abortion rates worldwide. As nations across the globe have expanded the grounds on which women can access reproductive health services, the quality and safety of abortion care has improved, as has maternal survival.
Abortion rates are relatively similar between countries with highly restrictive abortion laws and those where the procedure is permitted without restriction, at between 34 and 37 per 1,000 women annually [PDF], but the safety of the procedure diverges widely: almost 90 percent of abortions in countries with liberal abortion laws are considered safe, compared with only 25 percent of those in countries in which abortion is banned.

Thank you for the invitation to appear before the Argentine Congress to discuss the decriminalization of abortion in the country.
The purpose of my presentation is to present a review of international human rights standards and comparative law that we hope the Argentine Congress will take into account when deciding on the decriminalization of abortion. Human Rights Watch considers the decriminalization of abortion to be a key advancement for women's human rights and a necessary step for Argentina to comply with its international obligations.

The Canada Summer Jobs kerfuffle: Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

Should taxpayers fund summer jobs for youth where they will be trained to challenge and oppose the Charter rights of others? Of course not, but it's been going on under our noses for years. Anti-choice groups have been milking the Canada Summer Jobs fund to the tune of $1.7 million since 2010.
The story began in April 2017, when the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC) reported that many anti-choice groups had been getting Canada Summer Jobs funding for years -- primarily "crisis pregnancy centres" that dissuade women from abortion, but also some political groups, including Campaign Life Coalition, LifeSiteNews, and Canadian Centre for Bio-ethical Reform (CCBR). The latter group is infamous for its public display of gory signs showing alleged aborted fetuses and delivering similar graphic flyers to residences.
