A 14-year-old rape victim has died during childbirth in Paraguay, where abortion is forbidden unless giving birth threatens the life of the mother.

Her baby is stable but relying on a breathing machine, the medical team told the Guardian. The girl, who has not been named, had been hospitalized for 20 days because of pregnancy complications when she went into labor.

A new study finds that adolescent women have benefited greatly from the 2005 expansion of Ethiopia’s abortion law that gave them access to safe, legal abortion services. “Playing it Safe: Legal and Clandestine Abortions Among Adolescents in Ethiopia,” conducted by researchers from the Guttmacher Institute and Ipas, documents for the first time legal and clandestine abortion rates among Ethiopian adolescents (aged 15–19), and the severity of abortion-related complications in this age-group. The study found that adolescents are more likely than older women to obtain legal abortion services, and that complications from unsafe abortion are just as severe among adolescents as they are among other age-groups.

BANGKOK: Authorities will permit a 13-year-old girl to have an abortion after becoming two-months pregnant from allegedly being repeatedly raped by her drug-addicted stepfather in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district.

The girl's 36-year-old scavenger mother had on Saturday filed a police complaint against her new husband, who is also a scavenger.

HC directs AIIMS to examine abortion plea

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to form a medical board to decide if the pregnancy of a 15-year-old girlcould be terminated safely. The girl, who is over four months pregnant, said that she wanted to terminate the pregnancy to pursue her studies.

The girl had earlier run away from home and got married. The court directed the AIIMS to submit its report by December 22.

Bolivia lawmakers vote to ease abortion limits

LA PAZ, Bolivia — Bolivian lawmakers voted on Wednesday to ease the country’s tight restrictions on abortions, shrugging aside opposition from religious groups.

The Legislative Assembly vote will allow “students, adolescents or girls” to have abortions up to the eighth week of pregnancy. The measure doesn’t specify ages, but it appears to apply to girls up to and including 17 years old and older students who still depend on their parents or guardians.
