US anti-abortion activists tell Irish women that abortion will be rape-like

American anti-abortion organizations have been descending on Ireland following the country's legalization of the procedure in January. The Sidewalk Advocates for life (SAFL) have been using American examples and training and applying it to an Irish context with the opening of Gianna Care -- a Dublin based anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center.

The target of their campaigns -- couples who have been told their fetus has a fatal abnormality. The organization is reportedly training their members to wait in car parks for these couples and then convince them not to proceed with the abortion.

A leading anti-abortion group is planning to launch a media platform in response to the result of the referendum on Eighth Amendment in May, a letter to supporters has revealed.

The Life Institute, which ran the Save the 8th campaign, sent its members a 13-page document detailing how it lost the referendum and how it would respond. “Plans for a serious collaboration to establish a new media platform are being put in place,” it said.

An anti-abortion activist staging a hunger strike outside the Dáil works for an unregulated crisis pregnancy agency, The Times has learnt.

Tim Jackson said he believed that abortions caused breast cancer and made women suicidal. Last week he started a campaign claiming that he would not eat until Leo Varadkar watched a video of an American anti-abortion activist explaining what a second trimester termination is. The taoiseach said he was willing to watch the video.

Unauthorized pregnancy crisis centers in Dublin are misleading expectant women about the risks of sex, abortion and contraception.

An undercover investigation for The Times found that the Ask Majella and Gianna Care advisory services telling women that contraception was a health risk, there was a link between abortion and breast cancer and sometimes sex even lead women to “die”.
